Merit Badge Opportunity Days (MBOD)

MBOD's are events where a number of Merit Badge Counselors from across the Sycamore District are organized into single locations where they can teach your Scouts and help them work towards their merit badges.

Typical Guidelines

  • Please plan on arriving at 8:30 am each Saturday for registration and Opening Announcements.
  • Classes will begin at 9:00 am each Saturday and end at 2:00 pm
  • Classes will be 80 minutes with a 10 minute break between classes.
  • Troops are responsible for their own Blue Cards and must bring them, properly filled out, to the first Saturday.
  • Registration will be limited to 300 Scouts and will be on a first come first serve basis.
  • Scouts must list alternates on the registration form in the case of full classes.
  • You must register as a Troop. No individual registrations will be accepted.
  • Please use the provided forms to make it easier for the MBOD staff.
  • Please send only one check per Troop made out to Blackhawk Area Council (No Cash)
  • Each Troop must provide two‑deep leadership.
  • Registration for the Merit Badge Classes will be due no later than January 11th.
  • Eagle Required Merit Badges will be offered only to First Class Scouts and above.
  • Your Scouts will be able to earn 3 Merit Badges by attending all three Saturdays and completing the "Homework" assignments in the weeks between. Emergency Preparedness will require a 4th Saturday for the "Search and Rescue". That date will be announced at the first Saturday.
  • There are some time based prerequisites that must be done prior to the first Saturday. Please check the current merit badge requirements.
  • The $5.00 cost covers all course material. Lunch will not be provided.
